To this point, eight teams have had games postponed due to positive coronavirus tests.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Thursday they've shut down all activity at their ballpark and there are reports a weekend series of games has been postponed.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Major League Baseball has informed all teams they must have a coronavirus compliance officer who will travel with the team and assure all proper measures are being taken. The Phillies had two staffers test positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. "The Marlins' personnel who tested positive remain in isolation and are receiving care".

"Major League Baseball will co-ordinate with health experts and the Major League Baseball Players Association in planning for the Phillies' resumption of play, and will provide further scheduling updates as necessary", the league said in a statement Thursday. It adopted a pair of minor league rules before the season to aid in scheduling and speed up games amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Miami was supposed to play four against the Baltimore Orioles (two at home, two on the road) and three at home against the Washington Nationals. Prior to the game, four Marlins players tested positive for the coronavirus but the team elected to play regardless.

The additional COVID-19 positive cases of the Miami Marlins have prompted the postponement of a total of nine games, six of which are of the Marlins. While other leagues are tightly restricting the movements and contacts of their players and staff, MLB has basically said, "You be careful out there!".

It's uncertain if the Indians and Twins will move forward with their scheduled game Friday night. The Phillies also were scheduled to play games Wednesday and Thursday in NY against the Yankees, who now will be traveling to Baltimore instead.

During a recent radio appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, USA Today baseball reporter Bob Nightengale said that "at least" one Marlins player went out prior to playing the Braves, and it is believed that sparked an outbreak that has infected at least 17 players and coaches.
