Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of Roger Stone, a longtime friend, and ally of President Donald Trump who was charged with lying to Congress and witness tampering.

Roger Stone exits federal court in Washington on Friday, November 15.

Stone was indicted in former special counsel Bob Mueller's investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.

Prosecutors put forward emails and texts that they argued show Stone lied to the House Intelligence Committee about having Wikileaks-related communications that he didn't turn over to Congress.

Former Donald Trump campaign strategist Roger Stone has been found guilty of all felony charges over his false claim of having an inside contact at WikiLeaks (he didn't).

Prosecutors accused Stone of telling lawmakers five different lies related to WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange, which in 2016 disclosed a series of damaging emails about Democrat Clinton that United States intelligence officials and Mueller determined had been stolen by Russian hackers.

Stone, 67, was convicted on charges that include obstruction, making false statements and witness tampering.

NBC News' report added that Stone is scheduled to be sentences in February, and he faces up to 20 years in prison.

As a reminder, Stone was on trial for lying to Congress and thereby obstructing an investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

In the trial, witnesses highlighted how Mr Trump's campaign associates were eager to gather information about emails the U.S. says were hacked by Russian Federation and then provided to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.

Stone lied to Congress to protect the president, prosecutors said.

"When you're this far behind, you're going to have to use every tool in the toolbox - opposition research, dirty tricks, the kind of things campaigns use when you need to make up some ground", Steve Bannon, the Trump campaign's CEO, testified during the trial about his reaction after receiving an email from Stone during the summer of 2016.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the Stone verdict.

Stone was apparently their intermediary, according to prosecutors.

In his written answers to Mueller, Trump said he didn't recall his conversations with Stone, nor discussions about WikiLeaks and the Democratic hack.

Lawyers for Mr. Stone said it was the committee who mislead him, not the other way around.

Stone was the second close political adviser of Trump's brought to trial on charges by Mueller's team. Credico also testified during Stone's trial that Stone repeatedly told him to "do a 'Frank Pentangeli, '" a reference to a character in "The Godfather: Part II" who lies before Congress. Stone then appeared to threaten Credico's service dog, Bianca, saying he would "take that dog away from you".
