BREAKING Energy Secretary Rick Perry To Resign

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry has notified US President Donald Trump that he intends to depart from his post, it was revealed on Thursday.

"There was no quid pro quo in the sense of what those folks out there would like for it to be: We're [not] going to give you this money unless you go investigate Joe Biden and his son", Perry said in a Fox News interview.

But as the impeachment investigation into White House interactions with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expanded, some of that good will seemed to disappear.

Last week, the three Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives committees leading the impeachment probe issued a subpoena for Perry to turn over documents by Friday regarding any role he played in Trump's alleged bid to pressure Ukraine. Perry said Thursday morning he was one day closer to stepping down "but it ain't today".

A DOE spokesperson later said that "Secretary Perry absolutely supported and encouraged the president to speak to the new president of Ukraine to discuss matters related to their energy security and economic development" and that he "continues to believe that there is significant need for improved regional energy security".

"I don't know whether that was crap or what", Perry told the newspaper.

Perry faces a Friday deadline to comply with a House subpoena regarding information about Ukraine.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve our country in your administration in such a meaningful way", Perry wrote in his letter.

Perry insisted the Biden name did not come up at the White House, but corruption did.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Perry was making plans to step down.
